Mixed Media Travel Journal with Merill Comeau & Jodi Colella – Scenes, Senses and Stories of Greece

Mixed Media Travel Journal with Merill Comeau & Jodi Colella – Scenes, Senses and Stories of Greece

September 1-14 2023

Join collaborative teachers Merill and Jodi for an exciting mixed media exploration that uses all your senses to capture your time on the stunning island of Skopelos!

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this workshop will give you the opportunity to discover your unique creative voice. You’ll immerse yourself in a place of spectacular beauty and learn skills to translate your impressions into a uniquely personal mixed media travel journal.

Each morning we’ll work together in a supportive atmosphere that fosters spontaneity while learning new techniques and approaches. With daily demonstrations and assignments, you’ll experiment with textiles, paper, printing, dyeing, drawing, painting and writing. Projects will include botanical and geli printing, stamping, stenciling, weaving, stitching, simple bookmaking and landscape sketching. Some materials for collage will be created onsite from scratch including our own inks and printed papers, and we’ll incorporate the exotic, unexpected materials that you’ll discover in a Greek island environment. Simple mixed media  exercises will enhance your ability to capture your impressions and sharpen your observational skills. Both group and individual studio time will enable you to develop your preferred techniques or try your hand at something new and challenging.

Afternoons are free to continue working independently or swim, relax, and explore the island. You’ll enjoy the camaraderie as you participate in a series of cultural presentations on topics ranging from Greek mythology, history, the traditional role of women & men, as well as an evening of Greek folk dance and music. Field trips to special sites on the island, social activities, group dinners and free time round out a rich and varied art travel program.

Our Greek adventure begins with an inspiring 2 day visit to Athens, highlighted by tours of the Acropolis, the spectacular Acropolis Museum and the Ancient Agora, and we’ll conclude our journey with a final night in the heart of this legendary city.

Don’t miss this opportunity to make inspired art and savor the delights of Greek island life!
