"Sketch into Paint" Workshop in Greece with Emily  Passman

Join Emily on the artistic and cultural journey of a lifetime: a 2 week "sketch into paint" workshop where Mediterranean light and color come together - on the stunning island of Skopelos!

You'll learn to shake up and loosen your plein air skills, or if you're a beginner, you'll start a painting process which uses a step by step method of incorporating sketching and color studies into the development of your work.

On Skopelos we'll work in an array of inspirational painting locales: Along the dazzling shores of the Aegean, in the quiet sanctuary of a monastery, in lush gardens scented with jasmine and lemon trees, and in a traditional Greek village with age-old Byzantine churches and colorful wooden balconies overflowing with bougainvillea. We'll spend a day painting at the spectacular chapel of Agios Yiannis, the setting for Sophie's wedding in the hit film Mama Mia!

Daily morning classes will focus on seeing and drawing techniques designed to connect you to a new landscape and help you achieve a natural approach to composition and the development of a finished piece. Many times, these fresh, wonderfully loose studies will become your workshop masterpieces! Your paintings on prepared paper or canvas will incoporate all these earlier steps, resulting in colorful finished pieces that maintain a sense of realism without loosing that loose, fresh sense of spontaneity!

Afternoons are free to enjoy the island or continue developing your own work. We'll meet again in the early evening for art discussions, critques and an exchange of ideas. On alternate evenings you'll enjoy a series of cultural presentations that will introduce you to the history, mythology and traditions of Greece - and an evening of Greek music and dancing!

Our program begins with an inspiring 2 day visit to Athens, highlighted by tours of the Acropolis, the ancient Agora and the spectacular new Acropolis Museum. We'll explore the quaint streets of this legendary city and dine in lively tavernas. Our Greek adventure will conclude with a visit to the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi, famous for its magnificent mountain setting and the beauty of its monuments.

Don't miss this chance to experience the joys of en plein air in a relaxed and inspirational setting with expert instruction and the camaraderie of a small group of learners. Enjoy Greek food, delightful wines, new friends, breath-taking vistas and the incomparable history and hospitality of Greece!
